A Walk on the Beach

Testimony from the founder of Dream Small, Darcey Garno:

"Many years ago in a joking manner I frequently offered to be a traveling Therapist and go on vacation with patients. It just happened that it became a reality when I was traveling to Florida the day before David and his wife were to return home. After spending a week looking at the beach he was able to walk out with assistance and enjoy sitting on the beach. Sometimes it is just a small dream that can become a lasting memory. David passed away a few months after this vacation."

The Renewal of Vows

Testimony from Shawn Cross:

"My name is Shawn Cross. I have stage 4 melanoma cancer which has made me partially paralyzed. I have wanted to go back to Sanibel Island, Florida for years. Last time I went I had a medical emergency and ended up stuck in the hospital there for weeks. I thought I would never get back. Dream Small made it possible! Darcey is my physical therapist. She told us about DreamSmall and how it helps handicap and elderly people go on vacation. She actually went on vacation with us! She helped us with all the difficulties of traveling with a disability. We could NOT have done it without her. It was just too much. She was also able to make our dream of renewing our vows on the beach come true. I was able to swim in a pool which was something I was not able to do in years. We are so very grateful to Darcey and Dream Small. She made the dreams that are small to regular people a reality for us. Now we can't imagine vacation without her. She is what made it amazing!"

Mission accomplished! Quote from our favorite 88 year old, "I've had a perfect day". He loved every moment of it and could not believe how it has changed since 1945. He said, " This is on a scale I have never seen before". The party did not end after the game. We found an Applebee's and stayed out until 1:30 AM. He didn't want his big day to end. If e only knew that this was not is dream coming true, but ours as an organization. Being able to do the small things that impact people in big ways.
